Our home meets are entirely run by parent volunteers. You ask, "How can I help?" Pick what would fit you the best and sign up! Generally, it works out great if a parent works one home meet a piece. (One parent family=work one meet; two parent=two meets.) This year, parents should sign up during the spring swim session. The list will also be at the potluck on June 8. Bring your calendars (or your "app" ) to sign up so you don't forget! You can always be excused to watch your child swim. But do not forget to return! Announcer- This is a job for a person that loves to talk!! The announcer makes 3 calls for each event, calls scores when they are given, and assists with crowd control when needed. Responsible for finding singers for National Anthem as well. Clerk of Course- If you know a lot of the swimmers, or if you want to get to know them, this is the job for you!! The Clerk of Course takes 2-3 people. They are in charge of organizing the swimmers into their proper lanes before their races. Runners- 1 runner per meet, your job is to be sure that the timers and scorekeepers receive cards to keep track of swimmers times. Timers- Want to be right up in the action – this is for you!! Timers use stopwatches to time every race. There are 2 per lane and 2 backups. Your job is to time each race as the swimmer touches the wall and record the times on a card for the scorekeepers. Officials – There is a 2 hour course required to become an official. If you are interested please talk to a board member. You will be on-deck for each meet you officiate; we supply officials for both home and away meets. *This is one area that we are usually short help, so please consider this position. Awards- Home meets: Fill out 1st Place Exhibition for each heat. Keep track of 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each heat. At end of the meet get the labels for visiting team and give them the corresponding ribbons. Get labels and final results for Riptides ribbons.
Meet director- Officials course needed – This person makes sure that the meet runs smoothly from start to finish. Scoring- This job is for someone that knows the computer. It takes 3 people to score the meet. Clean up- Clean up is done by everyone on the team – if everyone helps it doesn't’t take very long. Take down flags, lane lines out, empty trash, clean up the grounds, etc. Concessions- 4 to 6 people needed to help at the concession stand at all home meets. This is divided into two shifts. Early shift will help set up (need to be at pool no later than 6:45); late shift will help tear down.. |
